Our Story

Our Journey of Faith and Community

Our Foundation in Faith (1964)
Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church began its story in 1964, rooted in a small gathering of faithful believers in Florence, South Carolina. Originally known as Five Points Baptist Church, our congregation was born in the Five Points community with a heartfelt mission: to share God’s love and truth with all who would listen. Those early days were filled with hope and prayer as families met together, believing that God would do great things through this new church. From the very beginning, a warm welcome and a spirit of fellowship defined our church family, setting the tone for generations to come.

From Five Points to Hoffmeyer Road

A New Name and Home
As the church grew in both faith and number, God opened the door to relocate to a new home on Hoffmeyer Road. This move gave us more room to serve and reach our community, and it marked an exciting new chapter in our history. In honor of this fresh start and new location, the church embraced a new name – Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church. The name change wasn’t just about a different address; it symbolized our commitment to remain a light for Christ in a changing world. We carried forward the same loving spirit and biblical foundation from Five Points, even as we stepped into a new season on Hoffmeyer Road. Through every change, God’s faithfulness remained constant, guiding us on the path ahead.

New Worship Center

Expansion Of Our Campus
By the 2000s, Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church was reaching max capacity each week. The original sanctuary could no longer hold the congregation, choir, and band in the same room. Plans were quickly made and fundraising started to build a large, new worship center. It was not long before the church reached it's goal and began construction on the current worship center. On the morning of December 7th, 2008, the congregation marched from the old sanctuary to the new worship center. You can watch the archived footage here:

Hurricane Matthew (2016)

Significant Damage To Our Facilities
2016 had started off great as we welcomed Gregory Batchelor as our new (and current) Pastor. However, in October of 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit South Carolina and left significant damage to the HRBC campus. The former sanctuary (now the Kids Club) and the Pastor's office, choir room, and other offices were damaged heavily. However, the community of Florence and other churches came to HRBC's aid and helped us restore the areas affected. Unfortunately, many important documents, such as the church's early history, were lost.
