Day 4: The Mirror of Self-Examination
Bible Verse
'Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.' - 1 Corinthians 11:27-28

Before we partake in communion, we're called to examine ourselves—not to achieve perfection, but to approach with honesty. This examination isn't about comparing ourselves to others, which we naturally tend to do. It's about holding ourselves up to the standard of Christ. When we do this honestly, we'll always find areas where we fall short. That's not discouraging—it's liberating. It reminds us that we're works in progress, sinners saved by grace.
Self-examination means putting ourselves on trial, allowing God's light to reveal what needs attention in our hearts. Maybe it's unforgiveness, pride, or neglect of our relationship with Him. The goal isn't condemnation but confession and cleansing. When we see ourselves clearly against Christ's perfection, we're reminded of our desperate need for His grace and our incredible privilege to receive it.

What areas of your life need honest examination and confession before God today?

Quote:
This word examine literally means let a man put himself on trial. Let there be an intense searching of his own heart with the desired end of locating those things that are wrong, those sin in his life. - Dr. Gregory Batchelor

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, search my heart and reveal any sin that needs to be confessed. Help me approach communion with a clean heart and humble spirit.
