Day 2: Faith That Sticks

Bible Verse
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." - Deuteronomy 6:4-7
There is a difference between faith that is borrowed and faith that is owned. Borrowed faith leans on a parent's belief, a church program, or a familiar routine. Owned faith has been tested, questioned, and chosen. The goal for every young person in your life is to move from one to the other. Research tells us that a significant number of young people walk away from the church after high school. For many, it is not a dramatic rejection. It is simply that their faith was never fully their own. When the structure of home and church was removed, there was nothing personal left to stand on. That is why the investment has to happen now, before the transition. Deuteronomy 6 gives a picture of what that looks like. Talk about God's Word when you sit at home, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. Faith is not passed on in a single conversation. It is woven into the everyday. You have more influence than you realize. The consistency of your faith in ordinary moments speaks louder than any formal lesson. When a young person sees you trust God in a hard situation, that leaves a mark. Encouragement for today: you do not have to be perfect to be influential. You just have to be present and intentional.
Reflection Question:
In your everyday conversations and routines, how often does faith in God come up naturally, and what might that say about its place in your own heart?
Quote:
"It is not an immediate rejection of Christianity, but it is a transition from a faith supported by parents and church programs to a faith that becomes personally owned during adulthood."
Prayer:
Father, let Your Word be so alive in my heart that it flows naturally into my conversations and my daily life. Use my ordinary moments to build extraordinary faith in those around me. Amen.
