Day 3: You Cannot Give What You Do Not Have

Bible Verse
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6." - Deuteronomy 6:4-7
There is a simple truth that every teacher, parent, and mentor eventually learns: you cannot lead someone where you have not been yourself. If the goal is to pass on a living, grounded faith to the next generation, then that faith has to be alive and grounded in you first. That means time in Scripture. It means prayer that is more than a quick checklist. It means growing in your knowledge of God, not just your familiarity with church. Biblical illiteracy is growing, and it is not just a problem outside the church. Many believers have sat in pews for years without developing a deep, personal knowledge of God's Word. That gap matters because, as one simple truth reminds us, we will not believe more than we know, and we will not live higher than our beliefs. Proverbs 22:6 points to the long-term impact of training a child in the way they should go. But that training requires someone who knows the way. It requires someone who has walked it. The good news is that you do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to be growing. Pick up your Bible today. Spend a few minutes in prayer. Take one step toward knowing God more deeply. That step is not just for you. It is for everyone you will influence.
Reflection Question:
If someone looked at your daily habits with Scripture and prayer, would they see evidence of a faith that is actively growing?
Quote:
"In order for us to teach the next generation, we have to have the Word in our own hearts. I tell our leaders all the time, you can't lead where you're not going."
Prayer:
Lord, stir in me a hunger for Your Word and a commitment to grow. Let what I learn in private overflow into the lives of those I influence. Amen.
